1 Scope
This part of BS 8000 provides recommendations for the design and installation, including workmanship and
finishing, of dry lining systems using gypsum-based plasterboards.
NOTE The general principles of workmanship on construction sites are given in BS 8000‑0.
It covers the performance-critical aspects of the components and workmanship used
in dry lining systems such as separation, fire protection, stability, applied loadings, acoustics, thermal insulation and aesthetics. It covers
the impacts on performance such as design considerations, site conditions, tolerances
and penetrations and defines the clear and repeatable measurement of tolerances and
deviation methods. The document is intended to be easy for the delivery team to use
and understand and can be used for education and training purposes.
It is applicable to the construction sector, in relation to dwellings, non-dwellings,
new builds and refurbishments.
It is for use by manufacturers, suppliers, specifiers, designers, contractors, installers,
project managers and all Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) duty
holders. It is also applicable to anyone with a vested interest in the end quality
and performance of the dry lining, as well as building control clients and their teams.
It does not cover the installation of dry lining to systems constructed from light
gauge steel framing (LGSF).
