What is BS EN 17443 about?

BS EN 17443 on winter service equipment. BS EN 17443 specifies the essential requirements of stationary systems to produce brine for winter road maintenance and includes tests of these requirements. Installation boundary: chloride and water inlet to the saturator, brine outlet to the spreading machine.

Note 1: Mobile systems to produce brines in situ are not content in BS EN 17443

Note 2: BS EN 17443 does not cover:

  • System and construction requirements
  • Requirements according to national and European legislation

Who is BS EN 17443 for?

BS EN 17443 on brine production systems is useful to:

  • Manufacturers of winter service equipment
  • Road maintenance agencies
  • Government authorities

Why should you use BS EN 17443?

De-icing agents in solid and liquid form are important for the winter maintenance of roads. That can prevent slippery road conditions.

BS EN 17443 describes the requirements for brine production systems and their testing methods. Brines are used for anti-icing (preventive winter maintenance) and de-icing (curative winter maintenance) in pure form or a mixture with solid sodium chloride as pre-wetted salt.

With the help of BS EN 17443, you can produce large quantities of brine that have the appropriate requirements for de-icing roads in winter, ensuring road safety and minimization of accidents.
