What is ISO 179271 about?

ISO 17927-1 is the first part of a multi-series international standard that covers welding for aerospace applications.

ISO 17927-1 specifies the requirements for fusion welding of aerospace hardware. It is to be used in conjunction with the design/engineering authority’s design documents or their accepted data for fusion welding of metallic components.

ISO 179271 covers the following fusion welding processes:

  • Oxyfuel welding
  • Gas-shielded arc welding with non-consumable tungsten electrode, Gas tungsten arc welding
  • Plasma arc welding
  • Electron beam welding
  • Laser welding, Laser beam welding

Who is ISO 179271 for?

ISO 179271 on fusion welding of metallic components is applicable to:

  • Space research organizations
  • Aerospace components manufacturers
  • Design engineers and engineering authorities in aerospace
  • Quality engineers and Quality accessors in aerospace

Why should you use ISO 179271?

Fusion welding is a process in which, the source generates an adequate amount of heat energy to create and maintain a molten pool of metal of the required size.

ISO 179271 helps you to design fusion welding of critical components and hardware for aerospace applications as per the internationally accepted standard requirements. Welding for aerospace components is a critical process and presents some different challenges as compared to normal fusion welding.

ISO 17927-1 assists design engineers and authorities in determining the appropriate fusion welding procedure for a specific aerospace component and hardware. It specifies that the quality of fusion welding of aerospace hardware should be high because the aerospace components and hardware is used in space environments. It is directly associated with the safety of human life present in space or traveling through space. Adhering to ISO 17927-1 standard requirement ensures superior quality in welded assemblies for aerospace.
