What is ISO 17634 about?
ISO 17634 is an International Standard that specifies the requirements for tubular cored electrodes used in the post-weld heat-treated condition for gas shielded metal arc welding of creep-resistant and low alloy elevated temperature steels. With different shielding gases, one tubular cored electrode can be examined and classified.
ISO 17634 is a combined specification that allows for classification based on either the chemical composition of an all-weld metal or the tensile strength and chemical composition of the all-weld metal.

Why should you use ISO 17634?
Tubular cored electrodes are used in welding. They are much easier to use than solid wires for welding. However, you must know how each of the tubular cored electrodes are classified to make an informed choice.
ISO 17634 offers the latest technical guidelines for welding consumables, relating to tubular cored electrodes. It is a combined specification, which means it provides for classification using two systems – the first based on the chemical composition of all weld metal (paragraphs and tables carry the suffix letter A), the second using a system based on the tensile strength alongside the chemical composition (carrying the suffix letter B). ISO 17634 covers requirements for symbols for shielding gas and welding position, the usability characteristics of electrodes, mechanical tests and technical delivery.
