What is BS EN 997-WC pans and WC suites about?
BS EN 997 discusses WC pans and suites with integral traps. BS EN 997 specifies constructional and performance characteristics together with test methods for close-coupled suites, one-piece and independent WC pans with integral traps. BS EN 997 standard covers flushing cisterns designed to be connected to drinking water installations inside buildings.
In the case of independent WC pans, the associated flushing cisterns and pressure valves are covered by other standards and the reference to cisterns in BS EN 997 is related only to the definition and requirements of flushing volume.
Note: BS EN 997 does not apply to squatting toilets, WC pans without integral trap or flushing cisterns as separate appliances.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 997:2018 supersedes BS EN 997:2012+A1:2015, which is withdrawn. BS EN 997:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 997:2012+A1:2015. These include:
- Introduction of a new Annex ZA in accordance with the latest template (in the format of TF N 687 rev1 of 2015-06-02)
- Modification of the marking of products
- Editorial modifications as agreed between representatives of EU/DG Growth, CEN/TC 163 and FECS on 2016-07-07 in Brussels for citation of standard in OJEU
