What is ISO 13256‑1 about?
ISO 13256‑1 establishes performance testing and rating criteria for factory-made residential, commercial and industrial, electrically-driven, mechanical- compression type, water-to-air and brine-to-air heat pumps.
ISO 13256‑1 gives technical specifications for testing such as terms, definitions, symbols, ratings and test conditions, performance requirements, test methods, marking provisions and publication of ratings for water source heat pumps.
The requirements for testing and rating contained in ISO 13256‑1 are based on the use of matched assemblies.
Note 1: ISO 13256‑1 covers the equipment designed for rating at one liquid temperature range may not be suitable at all liquid temperature range
Note 2: ISO 13256‑1 does not apply to the testing and rating of individual assemblies for separate use.
Who is ISO 13256‑1 for?
ISO 13256‑1 on water source heat pumps is applicable in:
- Manufacturing of water heat pump
- Companies dealing with water heat pumps
- Suppliers and distributors of water pumps
Why should you use ISO 13256‑1?
Water heat pumps is water-to-air heat pump using liquid circulation in a common piping loop functioning as a heat source in heating mode and/or heat sink in cooling mode.
ISO 13256‑1 provides you the technical specifications and performance criteria of heating and cooling systems which are generally referred to as “water-source heat pumps.” These systems generally include an indoor coil with air-moving means, a compressor, and a refrigerant-to-water or refrigerant-to-brine heat exchanger. A system may provide both heating and cooling, cooling-only, or heating-only functions.
ISO 13256‑1 gives you variety of test methods for water-source heat pump such as total cooling capacity, net total capacity, heating capacity, net heating capacity, rated voltage, rated frequency, which helps in reducing the risks factors and enhancing security while manufacturing the water-source heat pumps according to global standards.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 13256‑1:2021 supersedes ISO 132561:1998, which has been technically revised.
BS ISO 13256‑1:2021 includes the main changes:
- Significant updates to the formatting, symbols, and terms and definitions, have been included to more closely align with other pertinent ISO standards and the latest ISO requirements.
- The original water loop heat pump (WLHP), ground water heat pump (GWHP) and ground loop heat pump (GLHP) application rating designations, specifying entering liquid source rating test conditions, have been replaced with High, Medium, and Low source temperature range conditions to represent a wider operating map at both standard and partially loaded application rating conditions.
- Specific antifreeze solution composition requirements have been removed to eliminate prescriptive language and promote industry innovation of novel and improved antifreeze solutions.
- Airflow testing requirements have been updated to align with the complexities of testing more sophisticated constant airflow electronically commutated fan motors.
- Testing tolerances and uncertainties have been harmonized with other pertinent ISO standards, Annexes have been added and/or significantly updated that harmonize with other pertinent ISO standards.
