What is PD CEN/TS 16675Monolithic status of waste about?

PD CEN/TS 16675 is a technical specification document which describes the test methods applicable to assessment of certain physical properties of stabilized/solidified waste materials.

PD CEN/TS 16675 provides methods, which can be used to assess the monolithic character of a stabilized/solidified waste, with respect to landfilling. Information on the monolithic character is required to enable the choice of appropriate leaching tests for determination of the release of different substances from stabilized/solidified waste under specified (landfilling) conditions.

The following procedures and methods are included in PD CEN/TS 16675:

  • Test to determine unconfined compressive strength
  • Test to determine permeability
  • Test to determine the loss of mass by dissolution
  • Test to determine the expansion
  • Test to determine the content of organic matter
  • Test to determine freeze/thaw effects

PD CEN/TS 16675 does not address issues related to health and safety.

Who is PD CEN/TS 16675Monolithic status of waste for?

PD CEN/TS 16675 on monolithic status of waste is relevant to:

  • Microbiologists
  • Scientists and researchers
  • Any entity responsible for testing and routine sampling
  • Any entity responsible for operations and logistics of waste

Why should you use PD CEN/TS 16675Monolithic status of waste?

Landfilling of some types of waste requires stabilization/solidification to reduce the impact and/or comply with regulatory requirements.

PD CEN/TS 16675 includes several physical and/or chemical test methods each addressing different aspects of monolithic character. The selection of methods required for an assessment of the monolithic character of a stabilized/solidified waste may vary, depending on the scenario to be addressed.

Using the methods outlined in PD CEN/TS 16675, you will be able to determine the compressive strength and permeability of confined structures and identify the loss of mass by dissolution and expansion, organic matter content, and the freeze effect of confined structures.

PD CEN/TS 16675 provides you with comprehensive information and test methods for the determination of monolithic status of waste that needs to be landfilled for environmental protection, soil fertility enhancement and environmental improvement.
