What is PD CEN/TR 17345 about?

PD CEN/TR 17345 is an international standard that discusses waste samples of halogens and sulphur.

PD CEN/TR 17345 provides the framework for the waste samples of halogens and sulphur that need to be determined, as per EU Directive 99/31/EC and EU Directive 2000/76/EC. It talks about the implementation of the combustion-IC technique, which will allow in one single run the combustion of the sample followed by the determination of the halogens and sulphur with ion chromatography. Moreover, this instrument provides a sample carrousel for both solids and liquids, allowing automation of these types of analyses.

PD CEN/TR 17345 gives technical specifications such as terms, description of the combustion -IC technique, the principle, configuration of the system, sample introduction, combustion system, gas absorption unit, Ion chromatography system, evaluation study of C-IC technique, etc., for obtaining the halogens and sulphur waste samples.

Who is PD CEN/TR 17345 for?

PD CEN/TR 17345 on waste samples of halogens and sulphur is useful for:

  • Ecologist and conservationist
  • Testing laboratory
  • Waste management authorities
  • Public works department officials
  • Government and municipality officials

Why should you use PD CEN/TR 17345?

The content of sulphur, chlorine, fluorine, and/or bromine has to be determined in various waste streams such as refuse-derived fuel, rubber granulates, post-shredder residue and plastics from wastes of electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Recent developments of the C-IC technology have made this technique interesting for the determination of halogens and sulphur in waste samples.

PD CEN/TR 17345 specifies a combustion method for the determination of halogen and sulphur contents in materials, which helps you obtain the waste samples by combustion in a closed system containing oxygen (calorimetric bomb), and the subsequent analysis of the combustion product using different analytical techniques.

PD CEN/TR 17345 provides you with a technical description of the C-IC technique, an overview of available commercial instruments, the strengths as well as limitations of this technique and analytical results for halogens and sulphur obtained on waste samples.

PD CEN/TR 17345 lays out the current progress of the C-IC technology, which is helpful for users, as it includes the evaluation of the performance of different commercially available systems and the presentation of analytical results obtained on certified reference materials and waste samples.
