What is BS EN 295-6 VCP manholes and inspection chambers about?

Vitrified clay pipe (VCP) is a pipe constructed from a mixture of clay and shale that has been vitrified at a high temperature to produce a hard, inert ceramic. BS EN 295 is the European Standard that discusses vitrified clay pipe (VCP) systems for drains and sewers.

BS EN 295-6 is the sixth part of the multi-series, and applies to components for vitrified clay manholes and inspection chambers for buried drain and sewer systems for the conveyance of wastewater (including domestic wastewater, surface water, and rainwater) under gravity and periodic hydraulic surcharge or under the continuous low head of pressure.

Note 1: The specifiers/purchasers can select the components for vitrified clay manholes and inspection chambers according to their requirements.

Note 2: BS EN 295-6 does not apply to manhole tops and cover slabs.

Note 3: Corresponding provisions for the evaluation of conformity (ITT and FPC) and sampling and those for the test methods are further specified in EN 295-2 and EN 295-3, respectively.
