What is BS EN 13141‑7 about?
BS EN 13141‑7 is the seventh part of the BS EN 13141 multi-series. BS EN 13141‑7 addresses ducted mechanical supply and exhaust residential ventilation units. BS EN 13141‑7 specifies the laboratory test methods and test requirements for the testing of aerodynamic, thermal, acoustic, and electrical performance characteristics of ducted mechanical supply and exhaust residential ventilation units. Such units are referred to as bidirectional ventilation units in BS EN 13142:2021.
BS EN 13141‑7 is applicable to units that contain at least, one or more casing fans for mechanical supply and exhaust, air filters, air-to-air heat exchanger and/or air-to-air heat pump for air heat recovery, control system. Such units can be provided in more than one assembly, the separate assemblies of which are designed to be used together. BS EN 13141‑7 covers ventilation units with the continuous mass flow for each setpoint.
Note 1: BS EN 13141‑7 does not deal with non-ducted units that are treated in prEN 13141-8:2021.
Note 2: BS EN 13141‑7 does not cover ventilation systems that may also provide water space heating and hot water that is treated in EN 16573.
Note 3: BS EN 13141‑7 does not cover units including combustion engine has driven compression heat pumps and absorption heat pumps.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 13141‑7:2021 supersedes BS EN 13141‑7:2010, which is withdrawn. BS EN 13141‑7:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 13141‑7:2010. These include:
- New categories of heat exchangers have been added
- General requirements of the static pressure distribution have been added in 7.1
- The reference of the internal and external leakage rates has been changed to the reference air volume flow
- The formulas to calculate the temperature ratios have been changed
- The wet-bulb temperature for the cold climate test has been changed
