What is BS EN 13141-10 - Humidity controlled extract air terminal device about?

BS EN 13141 is a European Standard series that discusses the performance testing of components/products for residential ventilation.

BS EN 13141-10 is the 10th part of the series that specifies laboratory methods for testing humidity controlled exhaust air terminal devices.

BS EN 13141-10 applies to all controlled devices on indoor humidity, used in mechanical and natural powered residential ventilation systems. For instance, devices of the following types:

  • Humidity controlled devices with a manually adjustable opening
  • Humidity controlled devices with fixed setting
  • Humidity controlled devices self-adjusting on pressure difference

BS EN 13141-10 describes tests intended to characterize:

  • Aero and hygro-dynamic performance
  • Acoustic characteristics (including noise production of the device; insertion loss of the device; sound insulation)
  • Time response

Who is BS EN 13141-10 - Humidity controlled extract air terminal device for?

BS EN 13141-10 on humidity controlled extract air terminal device is relevant to:

  • Ventilation and air-conditioning system component manufacturers
  • Air terminal device manufacturers
  • Product designers
  • Quality control and testing personnel
  • Architects and contractors
  • Local bodies

Why should you use BS EN 13141-10 - Humidity controlled extract air terminal device?

Indoor air is kept clean and fresh with proper ventilation systems, that ensure that fresh air enters and bad air exits, such that moisture, smells, gases, dust, and other contaminants are removed. For this reason, it is essential that the humidity controlled extract air terminal device be tested for optimal performance and effectiveness, to make living spaces are comfortable for its inhabitants.

BS EN 13141-10 provides you with best industry testing of aerodynamic and hygrodynamic performances. The test consists of measuring several volume flow rates induced through a device by humidity conditions, under an applied static pressure difference, to define the flow rate/humidity characteristic curve.

Reference standard for performance testing of acoustic characteristics is also covered in BS EN 13141-10.

By complying with BS EN 13141-10, you can demonstrate whether the humidity controlled extract air terminal devices are fit for purpose and that they play a positive role in the performance of the overall residential ventilation systems.
