What is BS EN 1074-6 - Hydrants verification tests about?
BS EN 1074-6 is a technical specification that defines the minimum fitness for purpose requirements for hydrants to be used in, or connected to, water supply pipe systems, above or below ground (see EN 805), carrying water intended for human consumption. BS EN 1074-6 specifies the design requirements, the performance requirements, and the conformity assessment method for hydrants, whatever their type, materials, and functions where hydrants can be used for firefighting, irrigation, or other function, additional requirements can be given in other standards.
BS EN 1074-6 is a part of EN 1074 series that deals with the requirements applicable to both underground and pillar hydrants, in sizes DN 65 to DN 150, and PFA up to 16 bar.
Note: BS EN 1074-6 does not give requirements for the outlets or their interface with the hydrants, since they are subject to national standards.
Who is BS EN 1074-6 - Hydrants verification tests for?
BS EN 1074-6 on hydrants verification tests is useful for:
- Hydrant manufacturers
- Quality control and testing agencies
- Fire and safety department
- Disaster management department
- Entities involved in fire safety engineering
Why should you use BS EN 1074-6 - Hydrants verification tests?
BS EN 1074-6 specifies the requirements for hydrants to be used in. Hydrants are water extraction devices used in pipelines and water distribution systems. A fire hydrant can ensure quick water flow in the event of a fire. The hydrant wrenches and hydrant standpipes are used to tap into the pipes, which are then linked to the fire trucks.
BS EN 1074-6 provides manufacturers with the test methods for resistance, operation, endurance, and performance of hydrants. BS EN 1074-6 guidelines can help you to understand the requirements for hydrants for safer and high-quality manufacturing.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 1074-6:2008 supersedes EN 1074-6:2004, which is withdrawn. BS EN 1074-6:2008 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 1074-6:2004. These include:
- Clause 1 : deletion of the sentence stating that EN 1074-6 is a priority standard
- Clause 3: addition of the definition of draining system depth
- Clause 4: addition of a requirement on sealing material
- Subclauses 5.1.4 and 5.2.3: deletion of pillar hydrants from Table 2 and addition of a reference to EN 14384:2005
- Table 3: addition of draining system depth Pv
