What is ISO 3529-2 about 

ISO 3529 is a series on vacuum technology. Vacuum technology is a method used to evacuate air from a closed volume by creating a pressure differential from the closed volume to some vent, the ultimate vent being the open atmosphere. ISO 3529-2 gives definitions of vacuum pumps and related terms. ISO 3529-2 is a continuation of ISO 3529-1 which defines general terms used in vacuum technology.

Vacuum technology deals with technological processes and equipment that use vaccums to achieve better results than those that run under atmospheric pressure. ISO 3529-2 discusses vacuum pump, device for creating, improving and/or maintaining a vacuum. Two distinct categories are considered in ISO 3529-2, gas transfer pumps and gas gathering vacuum pumps. 

A gas transfer vacuum pump transports gas molecules from the inlet to the outlet of the vacuum pump by means of positive displacement or transfer of kinetic momentum. A gas gathering vacuum pump that captures gas in a solid or adsorbed state. Using ISO 3529-2 you can gain information on general terms and definitions of vacuum pumps and vacuum technology. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS ISO 3529-2 :2020 supersedes BS ISO 3529-2 :1981. BS ISO 3529-2 :2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 3529-2 :1981. These include: 

  • Under positive displacement pumps are added diaphragm-, peristaltic-, scroll-, screw-, claw-and trochoid vacuum pumps 
  • Under kinetic vacuum pumps are added regenerative-and compound turbo vacuum pump
