What is BS EN IEC 62041 about ?
BS EN IEC 62041 is a standard that serves technical requirements for transformers, power suppliers and reactors covered by IEC 61558 series. It details in electromagnetic compatibility which ensures the safety of electronic components from interferences by emissions or radiations.
BS EN IEC 62041 deals with the electromagnetic compatibility requirements for emission and immunity within the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz.
BS EN IEC 62041 covers normal operating conditions only. Requirements are specified for each port considered. If requirements are different, the most severe takes precedence.
BS EN IEC 62041 can also be used as a guide to test transformers, reactors and power supply units separately before these are incorporated into an appliance or equipment.
Note: BS EN IEC 62041 does not apply to -
- Simulated faults in electric circuitry or functional safety due to effects of electromagnetic phenomena
- Evaluation of human being for exposure to electromagnetic fields
- Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
- Power supply units covered by IEC 61204
- Power supplies and converters for use with or in products covered by IEC 61347
Who is BS EN IEC 62041 for ?
BS EN IEC 62041 on EMC requirements for transformers, power suppliers and reactors applies to:
- Electricity and power suppliers
- Electricity disaster management services
- Testing houses or laboratories for power suppliers
Why should you use BS EN IEC 62041 ?
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the compatibility of electronic devices with electromagnetic environments. It also ensures your electronic gadget doesn’t emit interferences and it will continue to work as intended in electromagnetic environments.
BS EN IEC 62041 provides you guidance on applicability, test equipment, conditions, measurement procedures, performance criteria and requirements on EMC requirements for transformers, power suppliers and reactors which allows you to limit emissions and radiations in electronic and electric devices.
Users of BS EN IEC 62041 can ensure the safe, interference free and trip free environments for transformers, reactors and power supply units.
What’s changed since the last update ?
BS EN IEC 62041:2020 supersedes BS EN 62041:2010, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS EN IEC 62041:2020 include -
- The inclusion of a clause on tests in series production
- The inclusion of a new clause on measurement uncertainly
- The status of a harmonized standard for this third edition
