What is ISO 8404 about?
ISO 8404 is a standard that covers dimensional specifications for angle pins that enhances the structural integrity of angle pins according to global standards.
ISO 8404 specifies the basic dimensions, in millimetres, of headed angle pins (type A), straight angle pins (type B), angle pins mounted with external thread (type C) and angle pins mounted with hexagon socket head cap screw (type D), intended for use in diecasting dyes and tools for moulding.
ISO 8404 also specifies the material hardness and designation of the angle pins (types A, B, C and D).
Who is ISO 8404 for?
ISO 8404 on angle pins applies to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of angle pins
- Dealers, distributors and importers of angle pins
Why should you use ISO 8404?
Angle Pins are made from tough material that has good wear resistance. They are used in conjunction with core slide retainer to actuate sliding core blocks. To prevent grinding after installation, the heads are machined with a spherical radius.
ISO 8404 helps its users to understand all the basic technical specifications such as material, hardness and designation as well dimensions of various types of pins, which allows you to enhance the precision of the angle pin production process.
Users of ISO 8404 can standardize the dimensional aspect of angle pins, ensuring their structural integrity by following the guidance that is in compliance with international standards.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 8404:2021 supersedes BS ISO 8404:2013, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS ISO 8404:2021 include –
- Addition of two new types of angle pins: angle pins mounted with external thread (type C) and angle pins mounted with hexagon socket head cap screw (type D)
- Correction in Figure 1
- Addition of an indication of surface roughness under the head of headed angle pins (Figure 2)
