What is BS EN 16809-2 - Polystyrene beads installed in masonry cavity walls and frame constructions about?

BS EN 16809 is a series of the European standard on thermal insulation products of buildings that discusses specifications for the bonded and loose-fill products after installation.

BS EN 16809-2 is the second part of the BS EN 16809 series of documents that specifies the requirements for products of loose-fill expanded polystyrene (EPS) beads and bonded expanded polystyrene beads installed in masonry cavity walls and frame constructions.

BS EN 16809-2 describes when taken together with EN 16809-1, the product characteristics that is linked to the essential requirements of the Regulation (EU) 305/2011.

BS EN 16809-2 also specifies the checks and tests to be used for the declarations made by the installer of the product and the rules for the evaluation of conformity.

NOTE: BS EN 16809-2 does not specify the required level of a given property to be achieved by a product to demonstrate fitness for purpose in a particular application

NOTE: Products with a declared thermal conductivity at 10 °C greater than 0,060 W/(m·K) are not covered by BS EN 16809-2.

NOTE: BS EN 16809-2 does not cover factory made expanded polystyrene products in the form of mats, batts, rolls or boards.

NOTE: BS EN 16809-2 does not cover products intended for airborne sound insulation and for acoustic absorption applications.

Who is BS EN 16809-2 - Polystyrene beads installed in masonry cavity walls and frame constructions for?

BS EN 16809-2 on thermal insulation products of buildings is useful for:

  • Builders
  • Architects
  • Manufacturers of thermal and sound insulating materials
  • Manufacturers of polystyrene (EPS) beads

Why should you use BS EN 16809-2 - Polystyrene beads installed in masonry cavity walls and frame constructions

Expanded polystyrene beads is the insulation material consisting of beads manufactured from expandable polystyrene or one of its copolymers with an air-filled closed cellular structure.

BS EN 16809-2 provides the inspection on the suitability of the building for the installation of the thermal insulating products.

BS EN 16809-2 navigates you through the properties of in situ installed product measurements and calculations.

BS EN 16809-2 specifies the procedure and measurements of the installed thermal resistance of masonry cavity wall and frame construction insulation.

Installation checks are set out in BS EN 16809-2 on the minimum width and the average width of the cavity, machine output, installed volume, the thermal resistance of installed masonry cavity wall and frame construction installation

BS EN 16809-2 provides guidelines for thermal products installation and installer's declaration while using an insulation product.

Overall, BS EN 16809-2 guides you through the installation of thermal insulating products in your building that can maximize energy efficiency, providing improved indoor environmental quality and enhancing durability.

In this manner, you can utilise the bonded and loose-fill thermal insulating products after installation to improve the structural integrity and durability of buildings.
