What is BS EN 13494 – Thermal insulation product about?
BS EN 13494 is a European standard that discusses thermal insulation products for building applications. Thermal insulation is used for protection, prevention, comfort and economy.
BS EN 13494 specifies the test apparatus, materials and procedures for determining the tensile bond strength of an adhesive, a reinforced base coat or a rendering system to a thermal insulation product for use as components in external insulation systems (ETICS).
Note: The test method described in BS EN 13494 does not apply to PU form adhesives.
Who is BS EN 13494 – Thermal insulation product for?
BS EN 13494 on the tensile bond strength of the adhesive and the base coat to the thermal insulation material is applicable to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of thermal insulation products
- Civil engineers
- Contractors
Why should you use BS EN 13494 – Thermal insulation product?
Thermal insulation is used to ensure that there is no loss or gain of heat in a medium, and therefore must be very well chosen considering the properties, applications and costs. It is used for protection, prevention, comfort and economy. Adhesive strength has the ability to stick to a surface and bond two surfaces together.
BS EN 13494 guideline helps you in testing the tensile bond strength of the adhesive, the reinforced base coat or the rendering system to the thermal insulation products is determined by applying a direct tensile load perpendicular to the faces of the individual test specimens.
BS EN 13494 provides you with comprehensive information which is useful throughout the process for determining the tensile bond strength of the adhesive and base coat for thermal insulation. Test material/apparatus, procedures and calculation of the tensile bond strength are all mentioned in BS EN 13494, this will help you to manufacture high-quality products of thermal insulation for building applications.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 13494:2019 supersedes BS EN 13494:2002, which is withdrawn.
