What is BS EN 14315-1 – Rigid PUR and PIR foam spray system about?
BS EN 14315 is a European Standard that discusses thermal insulation products for buildings. The main aim of the BS EN 14315 series is to provide manufacturers with best industry practices to demonstrate the performance of thermal insulation products, such that they are fit for its intended use.
BS EN 14315-1 is the first part of the BS EN 14315 series that specifies requirements for in-situ formed sprayed rigid polyurethane (PUR) and rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam products when applied to walls, ceilings, roofs, suspended ceilings and floors.
BS EN 14315-1 is a specification for the rigid foam spray system before installation.
Note 1: BS EN 14315-1 does not specify the required levels of all properties to be achieved by a product to demonstrate fitness for purpose in a particular end-use application.
Note 2: BS EN 14315-1 does not cover factory-made rigid polyurethane (PUR) or polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam insulation products or in-situ products intended to be used for the insulation of building equipment and industrial installations.
Who is BS EN 14315-1 - Rigid PUR and PIR foam spray system for?
BS EN 14315-1 on thermal insulation products is relevant to:
- Builders
- Thermal and sound insulating material manufacturers
- PUR and PIR manufacturers and suppliers
- Contractors
- Specifiers and installers
Why should you use BS EN 14315-1 - Rigid PUR and PIR foam spray system?
Rigid PUR/PIR foam is one of the most efficient, high-performance insulation materials, that contributes toward energy savings while occupying the least amount of space, ensuring high stability, and having exceptional thermal resistance and dimensional stability. The advantages of PUR and PIR sprayed foams with a closed-cell structure in front of the foam with an open-cell are strength, better heat-shielding properties, greater resistance to air and water vapour leaks.
In this regard, BS EN 14315-1 provides the best industry recommendations on product characteristics and includes procedures for testing, evaluation of conformity, marking and labelling of PUR and PIR products.
The classes of dimensional tolerances are specified in BS EN 14315-1 giving measures of length and width, thickness, squareness and flatness.
BS EN 14315-1 also covers guidance on Assessment and Verification of the Constancy of Performance (AVCP) that ensures your products conform with the requirements.
Thus, if you are a manufacturer of PUR and PIR foam products for thermal insulation, complying with BS EN 14315-1 can help demonstrate the performance and credibility of your product, ensuring that they are fit for purpose.
