What is ISO 209323 about?

ISO 20932 discusses the determination of the elasticity of fabrics. ISO 209323 is the third part of the multi-series ISO 20932 and discusses narrow fabrics.

ISO 209323 specifies the test methods which can be used to measure the elasticity and related properties of narrow fabrics. Two methods are itemized: one for the purpose of product quality assurance (method A) and the other for product performance when in use (method B).

Who is ISO 209323 for?

ISO 209323 on the determination of the elasticity of fabrics is useful for:

  • Textile manufacturers
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use ISO 209323?

Elasticity is the result of stretching the fabric to the maximum without being deformed. The elasticity is measured as a percent per meter or inch. The fabric elasticity can be measured wide-wise, long-wise, or across the bias of the fabric. Narrow fabrics are any textile fabric that is not more than 45cm in width with two selvages (uncut edge of the fabric on the right and left-hand sides).

ISO 209323 was developed because of technological advancements in yarn and fabric structures and properties, which increase product range and developments.

The study of the elasticity of fabrics is important when the estimation of their quality at use is concerned. Deformation of material is manifested through the change of dimensions, form, and fabric surface. ISO 209323 ensures to improve the quality levels of the fabrics for better performance, dimensional and physical properties of the narrow fabric.
