What is BS EN 17394-2 about?  

BS EN 17394-2 discusses textiles and textile products of children’s clothing. BS EN 17394-2 defines a test method for the security of attachment of functional and decorative buttons to clothing including garments such as gloves, hats, scarves, hosiery, ties, and textile belts. 

Note1: BS EN 17394-2 does not apply to: 

  • Childcare articles 
  • Shoes, boots, and similar footwear 
  • Toys 
  • Other articles sold with clothing 

Note2: Disguise costumes including carnival costumes are examples of clothing that are also toys and fall within the scope of the Toy Safety Directive. 

Note3: The scope of BS EN 17394-2 is limited to sewn-on buttons, toggle buttons, and tack buttons.
