What is BS EN 2331- Textile glass fibre preimpregnates about?

BS EN 2331 is an international standard used for Textile glass fibre preimpregnates. This helps in manufacturing good quality Textile glass fibre preimpregnates used in aerospace applications.

BS EN 2331 specifies a method for determining the resin content (with or without volatiles), fibre content, and mass of fibre per unit area of a textile glass fibre preimpregnate by ignition or solvent extraction, for aerospace use.

Note: BS EN 2331 does not give any directives necessary to meet the health and safety requirements. BS EN 2331 is the responsibility of the user of this standard to adopt appropriate health and safety precautions.

Who is BS EN 2331 - Textile glass fibre preimpregnates for?

BS EN 2331 on Textile glass fibre preimpregnates is useful for:

  • The aerospace and defence industry
  • Manufacturers of aerospace equipment and components
  • Vendors / Manufacturers and suppliers of sheet and strip steel for aerospace
  • Purchase divisions/component sourcing personnel
  • Product design engineers
  • Aeronautical engineers

Why should you use BS EN 2331 - Textile glass fibre preimpregnates?

"Prepreg" is the common term for a reinforcing fabric which has been pre-impregnated with a resin system.

BS EN 2331 specifies the test method and test procedure for Textile glass fibre preimpregnates. The test method are as follows:

  • Ignition method is useful in determining the difference in mass by means of weighing before and after removal of the resin
  • Solvent extraction method helps in determining the difference in mass by means of weighing before and after extraction of the resin with methyl-ethyl-ketone or other suitable solvents

BS EN 2331 is useful in calculating the resin content, fibre content, and mass of fibre per unit area of a textile glass fibre preimpregnate. With the help of the test method, you can ensure the sustainability of these Textile glass fibre preimpregnates in different climatic conditions.

By applying BS EN 2331, you can standardize the manufacturing process that results in producing good quality Textile glass fibre preimpregnates used in aerospace applications.
