What is ISO 13041‑1 about?
ISO 13041‑1 is part one of the multi-series standard that specifies, with reference to ISO 230-1, the geometric tests on normal accuracy numerically controlled (NC) turning machines and turning centres with horizontal work spindles as defined in 3.1 and 3.2. ISO 13041‑1 also specifies the applicable tolerances corresponding to the above-mentioned tests.
Where applicable, ISO 13041‑1 also applies to horizontal spindle turret and single spindle automatic lathes.
ISO 13041‑1 explains different concepts or configurations and common features of NC turning machines and turning centres. ISO 13041‑1 also provides a terminology and designation of controlled axes.
ISO 13041‑1 helps you improve and verify the accuracy of the turning machines and turning centres with horizontal work spindles.
Note- ISO 13041‑1 does not apply to the operational testing of the machine (e.g. vibration, abnormal noise, stick slip motion of components) nor to machine characteristics (e.g. speeds, feeds) as such are checks generally carried out before testing the accuracy.
Who is ISO 13041‑1 for?
ISO 13041‑1 on geometric tests for turning machines and turning centres with horizontal work spindles is useful for:
- Turning machines and turning centres designers
- Turning machines and turning centres manufacturers
- Industries using turning machines and turning centres
Why should you use ISO 13041‑1?
The objective of the ISO 13041‑1 is to provide information as wide and comprehensive as possible on geometric tests which can be carried out on turning machines and turning centres with horizontal work spindles for comparison, acceptance, maintenance, or any other purpose.
ISO 13041‑1 provides geometric tests for workholding spindle, straightness of axes motion, tailstock, tool turret and tool spindle, relation between linear motions and/or workholding spindle(s), angular error of linear axes of motion, and rotary workholding spindle head or tool turret head.
ISO 13041‑1 helps you improve and verify the accuracy of the turning machines and turning centres with horizontal work spindles.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 13041‑1:2020 is the second edition that cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 13041-1:2004), which has been technically revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- In 5.2, straightness measurements in all axes of motions have been added (tests G3, G4 and G5)
- In 5.3, squareness errors between axes of motion have been added (tests G7, G8 and G9)
- A test for error motion of axis of rotation of workholding and tool spindles has been added in Annex A
- Terms in non-ISO languages have been added in Annex B
