What is BS EN 14564 - Tanks for transport of dangerous goods about?  

BS EN 14564 discusses tanks for the transport of dangerous goods. BS EN 14564 provides additional terms and definitions to those written in the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) or the Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID), appearing as Appendix C to the Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail (COTIF). 

BS EN 14564 forms part of a series of documents prepared by CEN/TC 296 regarding the transport of dangerous goods. The series supports the proper application of the ADR and RID. BS EN 14564 is applicable to tanks used for the transport of dangerous goods.  

Note: BS EN 14564 does not apply to carriage in bulk of dangerous goods.

If not handled properly, transporting hazardous chemicals can be a risk to people, communities, and the environment. BS EN 14564 repeats some horizontal definitions taken from ADR 2017 chapter 1.2, and ADR 2017 chapter 6.7, specific to portable tanks. A shell, including its service and structural equipment. When used alone, the term tank means a tank container, portable tank, demountable tank, or fixed tank as defined in BS EN 14564 including tanks forming elements of battery-vehicle/wagon or MEGC. 

BS EN 14564 describes a tank intended for the carriage of liquid substances with a calculation pressure of at least 4 bar or intended for the carriage of solid substances (powdery or granular) regardless of its calculation pressure, the openings of which are hermetically closed. Using BS EN 14564 you can specify terminology on the construction of tanks for the transport of dangerous goods.
