PD 6689 gives guidance on the use of BS EN 12271 in the UK. BS EN 12271 specifies the properties of surface dressing required for the surface treatment of roads and other trafficked areas. BS EN 12271 is expected to be published in March 2007.

- surface dressings designed by the purchaser
- surface dressings in tunnels where fire tunnel regulations apply
- small areas under 50 m² which are not contiguous, such as patch repair surface dressing
- airfield pavements covered by international regulations - e.g. ICAO regulations.
BS EN 12271 is expected to be published in March 2007.
