What is PD CEN/TR 1295-4 - Reliability of the structural design of buried pipelines about?

PD CEN/TR 1295 is a series of the European standard on the structural design of buried pipelines under various conditions of loading to provide strength and pipe stiffness.

PD CEN/TR 1295-4 is the fourth part of the series of documents that lists the parameters for the reliability of the structural design of buried water and wastewater pressure pipelines, drains and sewers.

The reliability of the design of buried pipelines is based on the selection of appropriate design

parameters for a chosen design method. PD CEN/TR 1295-4 identifies the parameters appropriate to the chosen design method, which should all be clearly stated.

Note 1: PD CEN/TR 1295-4 does not aim to specify the requirements for the structural design of water and wastewater pressure pipelines, drains and sewers.

Note 2: PD CEN/TR 1295-4 does not apply for offshore laying, pipes supported on piles, no-dig pipelines, or laid above ground. Supplementary considerations need to be taken into account for these specific installations.

Note 3: Design parameters for calculation of longitudinal effects (including bending moments, shear forces and tensile forces resulting for example from non-uniform bedding and thermal movements and, in the case of pressure pipelines, from Poisson's contraction and thrust at the change of direction or cross-section) are not covered in PD CEN/TR 1295-4.

Who is PD CEN/TR 1295-4 - Reliability of the structural design of buried pipelines for?

PD CEN/TR 1295-4 on the structural design of buried pipelines is useful for:

  • Builders
  • Civil engineers
  • Designers of pipeline components and pipes

Why should you use PD CEN/TR 1295-4 - Reliability of the structural design of buried pipelines?

Structural designing provides all the crucial information about foundations, walls, floors, roof types, steep beams, material quality, and more to ensure that the structure is built to be safe and sound.

PD CEN/TR 1295-4 provides the general requirements that specify the parameters for the structural design of the pipelines.

PD CEN/TR 1295-4 navigates you through the pipe materials that are used for the production of components to construct buried pipelines for water and wastewater systems.

External loads parameters, internal pressure parameters, pipe own weight parameters and parameters for limit states analysis of pipe are set out in PD CEN/TR 1295-4.

Furthermore, PD CEN/TR 1295-4 can help you with pipeline structural design, which covers planning, designing, and structural analysis of major structures to ensure the structural strength and integrity of buildings or structures used to assess their safety and economic criteria.

As a result, the structural design ensures that the planned structure will be sufficiently strong enough to bear its intended load and withstand possible environmental conditions providing safety and operational use of the structures without any unnecessary costs.
