What is BS EN 10305-4 - Seamless cold drawn tubes about?

BS EN 10305 is a European standard on steel tubes for precision applications that discusses the required best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality seamless cold-drawn tubes. BS EN 10305-4 is the fourth part of a series of documents on steel tubes for precision applications. BS EN 10305-4 specifies the technical delivery conditions for seamless cold drew steel tubes of circular cross-section used in hydraulic and pneumatic power systems.

Tubes according to BS EN 10305-4 are characterized by having precisely defined tolerances on dimensions and specified maximum surface roughness.

The allowed pressure rates and upper temperatures are the responsibility of the customer in accordance with the state of the art and in the application of the safety coefficients specified in the applicable regulations, codes, or standards. Concerning the lower temperature range applicability, the impact energy requirements are given at 0 °C.

NOTE: Once this standard is published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) under Directive 2014/68/EU, the presumption of conformity to the Essential Safety Requirements (ESRs) of Directive 2014/68/EU is limited to technical data of materials in this standard and does not presume adequacy of the material to a specific item of equipment. Consequently, the assessment of the technical data stated in this material standard against the design requirements of this specific item of equipment to verify that the ESRs of the Pressure Equipment Directive are satisfied, needs to be done.

Who is BS EN 10305-4 - Seamless cold drawn tubes for?

BS EN 10305-4 on steel tubes for precision applications is relevant to:

  • Manufacturer of seamless cold drawn tubes

Why should you use BS EN 10305-4 - Seamless cold drawn tubes?

Cold Drawn Seamless tubes is a cold-drawn steel tube that offers uniform tolerances, enhanced machinability, and increased strength and tolerances compared to hot-rolled products.

BS EN 10305-4 provides guidance on classification and designation, steelmaking process, tube manufacture, and delivery conditions, chemical composition, mechanical properties, appearance, internal soundness, dimensions and tolerances, inspection, and test methods.

BS EN 10305-4 exemplifies the required chemical composition, mechanical properties, outside diameter, inside diameter, wall thickness, and eccentricity that help you achieve precision in terms of product functionality and specification.

As a user of BS EN 10305-4, you can be ensured of technical delivery conditions for seamless cold drawn tubes. With obedience and compliance to BS EN 10305-4, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality precise seamless cold-drawn tubes for hydraulic and pneumatic power systems. With BS EN 10305-4 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets. BS EN 10305-4 provides you with comprehensive information useful throughout the process of production.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 10305-4:2016 supersedes BS EN 10305-4:2011 which is withdrawn.

In comparison with the previous edition, the following technical changes have been made:

  • References were adapted
  • The options were renumbered in such a way that now throughout all parts the number of options are the same
  • Precision tubes will now be preferably ordered according to the outer diameter and wall thickness
  • The drift expanding test is now beside the tensile test the second test for the verification of the mechanical properties
  • Editorial updates
