What is ISO 20957-2 about?
ISO 20957 discusses stationary training equipment. ISO 20957-2 is the second part of ISO 20957 multi-series and discusses specific safety requirements and test methods. ISO 20957-2 specifies additional safety requirements for stationary strength training equipment.
ISO 20957-2 is applicable to stationary training equipment type strength training equipment with stacked weight resistance or other means of resistance, such as elastic cords, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, magnetic, springs and externally loaded weights (type 2) (hereinafter referred to as training equipment) with the classes H, S, and I.

Why should you use ISO 20957-2?
Stationary training equipment is inherently dangerous. Various types of equipment devices are typically large and have moving parts. The equipment shall be stable in any direction and loading condition in training, folding, and storage positions.

ISO 20957-2 provides you with methods such as dimensional checks, visual examinations, and performance tests. ISO 20957-2 also provides you with a stability check and an endurance test. All these tests ensure the additional safety requirements for stationary strength training equipment.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 20957-2:2021supersedes BS EN 9572:2003 and BS ISO 20957-2:2005, which are withdrawn. BS EN ISO 20957-2:2021includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 20957-2:2005. These include:
- The formulation has been aligned with ISO 209571
- Clause 3 has been updated
- Clause 5 and clause 6 has been specified and restructured
- Additional requirements for externally loaded equipment have been added to Clauses 5 and 6.
