1 Scope

This British Standard specifies requirements for designing, establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a standardization management system (SMS).

The scope of the SMS is a strategic decision for an organization based on the organization’s needs, objectives and business processes.

This British Standard is applicable to any organization, regardless of its size, type and nature, that wishes to:

1. enhance the coherence and effectiveness of its use of standards;

2. provide assurance of its compliance with its stated standardization management policy; and

3. demonstrate compliance with the requirements of this document.
