What is BS EN 10088-2 - Stainless steels about?
BS EN 10088 is a series of European standards on stainless steel that discusses characteristics of stainless steel and the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality stainless steel sheet/plate and strip. BS EN 10088-2 is the second part of a series of documents on stainless steel. BS EN 10088-2 specifies the technical delivery conditions for hot or cold rolled sheet/plate and a strip of standard grades and special grades of corrosion resisting stainless steels for general purposes.
The general technical delivery conditions specified in EN 10021 apply in addition to the specifications of BS EN 10088-2 unless otherwise specified in BS EN 10088-2.
BS EN 10088-2 does not apply to components manufactured by further processing of the product forms listed above with quality characteristics altered as a result of such further processing
NOTE: General purposes include the use of stainless steel in contact with foodstuffs.
Who is BS EN 10088-2 - Stainless steels for?
BS EN 10088-2 on stainless steels is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of stainless steel
- Laboratories
Why should you use BS EN 10088-2 - Stainless steels?
Stainless steel is a durable and affordable metal that is used for a wide variety of purposes. It's strong, making it perfect for construction purposes, and it's corrosion-resistant, so it can last a long time without being replaced or breaking.
BS EN 10088-2 on stainless steel offers the most up-to-date guidance on the classification of grades, chemical composition, mechanical properties, surface quality, internal soundness, inspection, and testing.
The guidance provided by BS EN 10088-2 helps you to manufacture high-quality corrosion resistance hot or cold rolled sheet/plate and a strip that has a long service life and helps you to expand the market reach for the product and build consumer trust and confidence. With BS EN 10088-2 you can be ensured that products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 10088-2:2014 supersedes BS EN 10088-2:2005 which is withdrawn.
BS EN 10088-2:2014 mainly differs from the 2005 edition as follows:
- Addition of austenitic grades 1.4618, 1.4376, 1.4640, 1.4646, addition of austenitic-ferritic (duplex) grades 1.4162, 1.4662, 1.4482, 1.4062, addition of ferritic grades 1.4600, 1.4607, 1.4611, 1.4613, 1.4630, 1.4634
- Chemical composition was changed for the following grades: austenitic grade 1.4371, 1.4597, austenitic-ferritic grade 1.4362
- Standard inspection document is now a test report 2.2 according to en 10204;
- Products delivered with hot-rolled or cold-rolled finishes shall be supplied with a prime surface
- A new cold-rolled surface finish (2a) has been introduced for ferritic stainless steel grades that have been 'bright-pickled and skin passed
- Mechanical values have been changed for austenitic grade 1.4372, for ferritic grades 1.4016, and martensitic grade 1.4034
