What is ISO 16143-1 - Corrosion-resistant stainless steel flat products about?

ISO 16143-1 is a series of international standards on stainless steel for general purposes that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality corrosion-resistant flat products.

ISO 16143-1 specifies the technical delivery conditions for hot- or cold-rolled sheet/plate and strip for general purposes made of the most important corrosion-resistant stainless steel grades.

In addition to ISO 16143-1, the general technical delivery requirements of ISO 404 are applicable.

ISO 16143-1 does not apply to components manufactured by further processing of the product forms listed in the first paragraph where quality characteristics are altered as a result of such processing.

NOTE 1: In the text, under the term “general purposes”, purposes other than the special purposes mentioned in References [1] to [4] are understood.

NOTE 2: Heat-resistant steel grades can be found in ISO 4955 and they can be used for corrosion-resistant purposes.

Who is ISO 16143-1 - Corrosion-resistant stainless steel flat products for?

ISO 16143-1 on corrosion-resistant stainless steel flat products is relevant to:

  • Manufacturer of corrosion-resistant stainless steel flat products

Why should you use ISO 16143-1 - Corrosion-resistant stainless steel flat products?

Stainless steel is a steel alloy that contains a minimum chromium content of 10.5%. The chromium reacts with the oxygen in the air and forms a protective layer that makes stainless steel highly resistant to corrosion and rust.

ISO 16143-1 provides guidance on the manufacturing process, delivery condition, chemical composition, susceptibility to intergranular corrosion, mechanical properties, surface quality, internal soundness, dimensions, tolerances on dimensions, and shape, calculation of mass and tolerance of mass. ISO 16143-1 specifies tests to be carried out for inspection steel which helps you to maintain the quality of the stainless steel flat products. ISO 16143-1 exemplifies the required mechanical property and chemical composition that helps you achieve precision in terms of product functionality.

As a user of ISO 16143-1, you can be ensured of all the properties of stainless steel flat products. With obedience and compliance to ISO 16143-1, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality corrosion-resistant stainless steel flat products. With ISO 16143-1 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
