What is BS 3166 - Thermographs of the liquid-filled and vapour pressure types about?

BS 3166 is a British Standard that relates to thermographs of the liquid-filled and vapour pressure types, suitable for general and marine use in the measurement of temperatures within the range – 20 °F to 220 °F (– 30 °C to 105 °C).

The instrument comprises a single or twin-pen recorder with one or two capillary tubes and bulbs respectively. When one bulb is used as a wet bulb, a container for distilled water is provided.

Note: A louvred screen may be used to house the bulbs, but the screen is not specified in BS 3166.

Who is BS 3166 - Thermographs of the liquid-filled and vapour pressure types for?

BS 3166 on thermographs of the liquid-filled and vapour pressure types is useful for:

  • Designers of thermographs
  • Thermal engineers
  • Metrology and quality control and testing personnel
  • Local and national regulatory bodies

Why should you use BS 3166 - Thermographs of the liquid-filled and vapour pressure types

Thermograph is an instrument that produces a trace or image representing a record of the varying temperature or infrared radiation over an area or during a period, protection, insulation and lifetime in the industrial field in maintenance and production control as well.

BS 3166 discusses materials, design and construction as well as the temperature range that depicts a user-friendly idea of thermographs.

BS 3166 sets out the specifications for testing, marking and packaging details about the thermographs that help to manufacture good quality products.

With BS 3166 you can verify the performance characteristics of thermographs that ensure the reliability of the products in preventing damage to the mechanism within extremes of temperatures.
