What is BS 1365- Short-stem thermometers about?

BS 1365 is an International Standard that discusses the methods and meters for temperature measurement.

BS 1365 specifies requirements for two series, A and B, of mercury-in-glass thermometers. In each series, thermometers are calibrated for total immersion, i.e., immersion to the reading (designated A1 or B1), and thermometers calibrated for partial immersion (designated A2 or B2) are included for each temperature range.

  • Series A1 comprises seven total immersion thermometers, each with a scale span of approximately 60 Celsius degrees, covering the range – 10 °C to + 360 °C
  • Series A2 covers the same range for immersion of 80 mm
  • Series B1 comprises 24 total immersion thermometers, each with a scale span of approximately 10 Celsius degrees, covering the range – 10 °C to + 220 °C
  • Series B2 covers the same range for immersion of 70 mm

Who is BS 1365- Short-stem thermometers for

BS 1365 on short-stem thermometers is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers and designers of short-stem thermometers
  • Thermal engineers
  • Testing authorities
  • Regulatory authorities
  • Quality control authorities

Why should you use BS 1365- Short-stem thermometers?

Short-stem thermometers eliminate toxic mercury and provide consistently accurate results across a wide range of applications.

BS 1365 gives you information about the types and design of the thermometers, and other technical requirements such as temperature scale, bulb, stem, annealing, etc., which helps users to manufacture standard short-stem thermometers.

BS 1365 gives a test procedure that helps the users to stabilize the thermometers before graduation. It provides you with details about the scale lines in the thermometers.

BS 1365 also guides you for various test methods and procedures that assist with the measures for minimizing the effects of accidental overheating. This contributes to enhancing the safety of the thermometers.

Overall, BS 1365 is useful as it provides guidance on the short-range short-stem thermometers that can be beneficial for your business of thermometers and can also help you to expand your business globally.
