What is BS 2062-1 - gear hob specification about?  

Hobs are used for cutting gears, splines, and sprockets. The BS 2062 series is a British Standard series that discusses specifications for hobs for general purposes. 

BS 2062-1 applies to non-topping single-start right-hand and left-hand finishing hobs for helical and straight spur gears for general purposes. 

Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser, the hobs supplied in accordance with this British Standard will be right-hand. 

Note: Grade C (which is given in American and other specifications) is not included.
