What is BS G 241 - Specification for  fire proof electric cables about?

BS G 241 specifies the construction and performance requirements for a range of cables suitable for use in engine fire zones and other areas requiring circuit integrity in fire conditions. The size range is 22 to 16.

The following types of cable are specified.

  • Type F single core, having nickel clad copper conductors
  • Type FA single core, having nickel clad copper alloy conductors
  • Type FSN single core or multi-core type F with a screen and outer jacket
  • Type FASN single core or multi-core type FA with a screen and outer jacket

The cables are suitable for continuous use where the maximum stabilized conductor temperature does not exceed 260 °C. They are suitable for applications involving flexing at temperatures down to – 65 °C.

The cables are suitable for use where the potential between conductors or between a conductor and screen, or the aircraft structure does not exceed 600 V r.m.s. and the frequency does not exceed 2 000 Hz.

The continuous current ratings for the cables are defined in BS G 241.

Who is BS G 241 - Specification for  fire proof electric cables for?

BS G 241 on specification for fire proof electric cables is useful for:

  • Fire proof electric cables manufacturers
  • Quality control and regulatory bodies
  • Quality compliance personnel
  • Product design engineer
  • Safety department

Why should you use BS G 241 - Specification for fire proof electric cables?

Fire proof cables are designed to maintain circuit integrity and continue to work for a specified period of time under defined conditions. When it comes to the manufacturing and use of aerospace components, reliability, consistent performance and durability are crucial.

BS G 241 provides constructional requirements and test methods that shall be used for the formation of the cables. This ensures compliance with these requirements and tests can ensure your products meet the performance needs of the end application and play an important part in preserving the integrity of the environment during a fire incident and improving the chances of escape and survival.

With compliance and obedience to BS G 241, you can demonstrate the reliability of the cables and build trust in its use throughout the aerospace supply chain.
