What is BS 3063 - Dimensions of gaskets for pipe flanges about?
BS 3063 specifies the “plan” dimensions of gaskets suitable for use with flanges to BS 107), BS 17708) and BS 20359).
BS 3063 does not include spiral edge-wound or other special types of gasket. Dimensions of gaskets for use with flanges to BS 10, Table K, Table R and Table S have been limited to sizes up to and including 15 in, 5 in and 3 in flange size designations respectively and no gasket dimensions have been standardized for BS 10, Table T. This is because wide variations may occur in the actual inside diameters of steel pipes fitted with flanges of the same size designations to the higher tables of BS 10. In such cases, it is not practicable to specify the inside diameter of gaskets and there would be little advantage in specifying the outside diameters only.
NOTE Gasket dimensions for flanges for the petroleum industry are given in the British Standards for pipe flanges and gaskets for the petroleum industry, BS156010), BS 329311), BS 338112), BS 157513) and BS 157614).
Who is BS 3063- Dimensions of gaskets for pipe flanges for?
BS 3063 on dimensions of gaskets is for:
- Pipe flanges manufacturers and suppliers
- Installers of pipes and gaskets
- Test providers for gaskets
- Mechanical engineer
Why should you use BS 3063 - Dimensions of gaskets for pipe flanges?
A pipe flange connects piping and components in a piping system by use of bolted connections and gaskets.
BS 3063 provides specifications and requirements for different tests of tubing that help you to check whether the gaskets for pipe flanges will withstand variable temperatures.
The dimensions and specifications given in BS 3063 enable you to examine the pipe flanges for any signs of deformation or delamination of reinforcement or lining, which contributes a lot to maintaining the high quality and efficient functioning.
