What is BS 5154 - Copper alloy globe and gate valves specifications about?

BS 5154 is a British standard that specifies design, details of body ends, materials, test requirements, marking and preparation for storage and transportation, of copper alloy valves of globe, globe stop and check, check and gate types of the sizes specified in clause 5 and the pressure designation given in clause 6.

Two valve series, A and B, are specified, each series differing in its maximum temperature ratings. The reclamation of valves through the impregnation of castings is a recognized practice within this standard but the impregnation process is not defined.

Note: Valves that have failed the initial shell pressure test may be reclaimed, using an impregnation process which is permitted only by written approval of the purchaser and his acceptance of the manufacturer’s proposed method of reclamation.

Who is BS 5154 - Copper alloy globe and gate valves specifications for?

BS 5154 on copper alloy globe and gate valves specifications is useful for:

  • The petroleum industry
  • The oil and gas industry
  • The water industry
  • The energy and power industry
  • Valve manufacturers
  • Quality control and testing centres

Why should you use BS 5154 - Copper alloy globe and gate valves specifications

The vital job of managing the flow is accomplished by gate valves and globe valves, which are put on the pipes and pipelines to straighten the flow from one area to another and prevent flow losses. Globe valves seal better and last longer than gate valves. They are more expensive than comparably sized gate valves, however, in cases when throttling is required, the extra cost may be justified.

BS 5154 provides its users with specifications for pressure designations, temperature rating and the dimensions and tolerances of the body ends. BS 5154 guides you with requirements for the test methods for quality assessment of the valves. Using BS 5154 guidelines assures high quality, reliability, and durability of the valves for longer service life.
