What is BS EN 16601-00-01- Glossary of terms of space systems about?
BS EN 16601-00-01 has been developed to cover specifically space systems and has therefore precedence over any EN covering the same scope but with a wider domain of applicability (e.g.: aerospace).
BS EN 16601-00-01 controls the definition of all common terms used in the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) Standards System. Terms specific to a particular ECSS Standard are defined in BS EN 16601-00-01.
Who is BS EN 16601-00-01- Glossary of terms of space systems for?
BS EN 16601-00-01 on glossary of terms of space systems is useful for:
- Spacecraft and space products manufacturers
- Aerospace products manufacturers
- Testing agencies involved in the inspection of spacecraft and aerospace products
- Quality control personnel for spacecraft products
- Aeronautical engineers
- Space researchers
Why should you use BS EN 16601-00-01- Glossary of terms of space systems?
ECSS-S-ST-00C defines the highest-level system within a space project – i.e., the one at the mission level - as the “Space System”. The purpose of clause 2 of BS EN 16601-00-01 is to identify the breakdown of a typical space system and to define a set of standard terms for the constituent levels within the breakdown.
It is not the intention to define new terms in BS EN 16601-00-01 to supersede those already in universal use. Rather, the intention is to define a standard set of terms for the levels of the space system breakdown and then to show where the domain-specific entities fit into these levels.
BS EN 16601-00-01 has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/CLC/TC 5 “Space”, the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
