What is ISO 84372 about?

ISO 84372 is the second part of the multi series standard that specifies safety requirements applicable to combustion engine powered pedestrian-controlled snow throwers. It is intended to be used with ISO 84371 and ISO 84374 to achieve the full requirements and means of verification for pedestrian-controlled snow throwers.

The ISO 8437 series deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to snow throwers used as intended and under the conditions reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer.

NOTE-

ISO 84372 does not apply to the following:

  • electrically powered and battery powered snow throwers
  • hand-held snow throwers
  • airport or highway snow removal machines and equipment
  • machines intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres

ISO 84372 does not deal with hazards related to the following:

  • battery circuits exceeding 42 V
  • mains connected starting motor
  • magneto grounding circuits
  • working environment
  • electromagnetic compatibility

The ISO 8437 series is not applicable to machines that were manufactured before the date of its publication.

Who is ISO 84372 for?

ISO 84372 on pedestrian-controlled snow throwers for is applicable to:

  • Pedestrian-controlled snow thrower manufacturers
  • Health and safety bodies regulators, accident prevention organizations, market surveillance, etc.).
  • Users of snow throwers
  • Snow thrower maintenance providers
  • Machine manufacturers (small, medium and large enterprises)

Why should you use ISO 84372?

Pedestrian-controlled snow throwers should be safe and of good quality as they are operated in harsh conditions.

The objective of ISO 84372 is to define safety requirements and common test methods to deal with significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to pedestrian-controlled snow throwers. It allows you to improve the quality and safety of the snow throwers.

ISO 84372 provides guidelines for marking, labels and warnings to be put on the snow throwers so that the user understands the dangers and the correct ways to use the snow throwers.

You can improve the durability of the snow throwers as ISO 84372 specifies tests to check the structural integrity and overheating.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 84372:2021 is the first edition of ISO 84372, that together with ISO 84371, ISO 84373 and ISO 84374, cancels and replaces ISO 8437:1989, which has been technically revised. BS EN ISO 84372:2021 also incorporates the Amendment ISO 8437:1989/Amd.1:1997.
