What is ISO 16147 about?

ISO 16147 specifies requirements for the design and installation of engine-mounted fuel, oil, and electrical components on diesel inboard-mounted engines for minimizing fuel leakage, risk of electric shock, and the risk of and/or the spread of fire on the small craft of hull length up to 24 m.

Who is ISO 16147 for?

ISO 16147 on inboard diesel engines is relevant to:

  • Ships and marine manufacturers
  • Diesel engine manufacturers
  • Design engineers for diesel engines
  • Quality control personnel for diesel engines

Why should you use ISO 16147?

ISO 16147 helps in achieving reliability levels appropriate for offshore wind farm components, all types of structure and the nature of the combination of materials used.

ISO 16147 helps you in providing comprehensive requirements and guidance for the planning,

engineering and safe execution of port and marine operations for all types of offshore wind farm components including cable-laying and burial operations and installation and operation of floating turbines moored to the seabed.

Adopting requirements in compliance with ISO 16147 can help maintain efficiency in port and marine operations by taking into account performance of foundations, substructures, WTG, cables, and topsides installed in offshore wind farms, from the point of view of planning, engineering, construction, and documentation.

ISO 16147 ensures that port and marine operations are conducted within defined and recognized safety and reliability levels, wherever they are performed. As a result, the operational efficiency and safety of the small craft can be maintained. Low-emission levels, prolonged service-life and energy efficiency are the key outcomes for your business.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS ISO 16147:2020 supersedes BS ISO 16147:2018. BS ISO 16147:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 16147:2018. These include:

  • Clarification in the Scope that the length of the hull is as defined in ISO 8666, and reference added in a new Bibliography
  • All references have been dated
