What is ISO 122157 about?

ISO 122157 defines the dimensions, local design pressures, and global loads acting on multi-hull craft with a hull length (LH) or load line length of up to 24 m. It considers all parts of the craft that are assumed watertight or weathertight when assessing stability, freeboard, and buoyancy.

ISO 122157 is applicable to the following two types:

  • Recreational craft, including recreational charter vessels
  • Commercial craft and workboats

ISO 122157 is applicable to the structures supporting windows, portlights, hatches, deadlights, and doors.

Note: ISO 122157 is not applicable to multi-hull racing craft designed only for professional racing.

Who is ISO 122157 for?

ISO 122157 on multihulls and their local scantlings for small craft is relevant to:

  • Maritime manufacturers
  • Small craft manufacturers
  • Water transport engineering
  • Ship and marine industries
  • Quality control departments

Why should you use ISO 122157?

ISO 12215-7 provides you with the determination of loads for multihulls and their local scantlings of sailing small craft.

The guidelines provided in ISO 12215-7 can help you achieve an overall structural strength that ensures the watertight and weathertight integrity of the craft. This can ultimately also prolong the service-life of your sailing craft.

As a result, you can manufacture sailing crafts that are safe to use, following the design guidelines provided in ISO 12215-7.

ISO 12215-7 is intended to be a tool to determine the scantlings of a craft as per minimal requirements. By adopting dimensioning practices according to ISO 12215-7, you can align your manufacturing processes with general worldwide acceptability of boat scantlings.
