What is ISO 10087 - Coding system about?  

ISO 10087 establishes a coding system to achieve identification of any small craft in terms of: 

  • Identification code of the country of the manufacturer of the craft 
  • Identification code of the manufacturer 
  • Serial number 
  • Month and year of manufacture 
  • Model year 

ISO 10087 applies to the small craft of all types and materials, of hull length, LH, up to 24 m.

ISO 10087 on a coding system for small craft is applicable for:

Why should you use ISO 10087- Coding system? 

A craft identification number that consists of 14 consecutive characters plus a hyphen without intervening spaces, slashes, or dashes. Guidelines are given in ISO 10087 to help you in classifying the small crafts according to serial number and model year, as well as code of the country and that of the manufacturer. 

As a manufacturer, ISO 10087 also helps you in defining the size, location, and marking of the identification number and duplicate identification number as well which is only known to you. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN ISO 10087:2019 supersedes BS EN ISO 10087:2006. BS EN ISO 10087:2019 includes some technical changes concerning BS EN ISO 10087:2006. These include: 

  • New definitions 3.3 and 3.4 (country of manufacturer and small craft) 
  • Updated manufacturer’s identification code requirements (namely in 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, and 5.2)
