What is ISO 14945 about?
ISO 14945 discusses small craft builder’s plates. ISO 14945 is part of a series of documents that specifies requirements for the uniform display of the information exhibited on the builder’s plate of small craft.
ISO 14945 specifies the requirements are material and fixing, marking, size of characters as well as the size of pictograms and symbols to design effective builder’s plate.
Note: ISO 14945 does not include personal watercraft.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 14945:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 14945:2004. BS EN ISO 14945:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 14945:2004. These include:
- Added propeller symbol definition (3.6)
- Defined small craft (3.7)
- Updated Clause 5 to guide the inclusion of the mass of outboards, as well as maximum kW and maximum load, in the builder’s plate
- Updated plate illustrations (Annex A)
