BS EN 12274-5 is the fifth part of the BS EN 12274 series of standards that slurry surfacing.

BS EN 12274-5 specifies a test method for the design of slurry surfacing mixture based on the determination of the minimum binder content of the mixture and the resistance to wear under wet track abrasion conditions for the purpose of supporting the mixture design.

BS EN 12274-5 can be used for quality control purposes.

Who is BS EN 12274-5 - Determination of the minimum binder content and wearing resistance for?

BS EN 12274-5 on the determination of the minimum binder content and wearing resistance is useful for:

  • Construction materials manufacturers
  • Manufacturers of binder materials
  • Road and transport department
  • Civil engineers
  • Construction companies
  • Contractors

Why should you use BS EN 12274-5 - Determination of the minimum binder content and wearing resistance

BS EN 12274-5 specifies a test method for the design of slurry surfacing mixture based on the determination of the minimum binder content of the mixture that ensures precise and valid monitoring of the production.

BS EN 12274-5 ensures the slurry material is durable and resistant to wear of the mix under different traffic and climatic conditions.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 12274-5:2018 supersedes BS EN 122745:2003, which is withdrawn.

BS EN 12274-5:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 122745:2003

These include:

  • In 6.1 the humidity is reduced from 100 % to 60 %
  • In 6.2 the Abrasion machine is defined in terms of rotating speed and force applied
