What is BS EN 17088 about?
BS EN 17088 discusses side curtain ventilation systems. Side curtain ventilation systems are used for livestock, poultry, and greenhouses. BS EN 17088 specifies safety and performance criteria for side curtain ventilation systems. Included are machines that operate using the potential energy stored by the earlier application of human or animal force, such as stretched springs.
BS EN 17088 addresses significant hazards associated with side curtain systems which cover: crushing, cutting or severing, drawing-in or trapping, entanglement, shearing, suffocation electrocution and shock. Other potentially hazardous situations covered are incorrect design, location, and identification of control devices.
Note 1: BS EN 17088 does not apply to the following:
Doors and side curtains when used as doors, systems inflated by air, screens supplied for the control of fire or smoke, screens that move instantaneously upon the application of human force, side curtains when used to control ventilation conditions in a toxic or explosive environment.
Note 2: BS EN 17088 is not applicable to side curtain ventilation systems manufactured before the date of its publication.
Who is BS EN 17088 for?
BS EN 17088 on side curtain ventilation systems useful for:
- Ventilation systems manufacturers
- Greenhouse operators
- Poultry farm owners
- Dairy farm owners
- Architects / Civil Engineers
Why should you use BS EN 17088?
Side curtain ventilation systems are complex systems and require accurate assembly during installation. They also need regular maintenance of all. Even after the installation of the system, it is still prone to various hazards. Incidents have suggested that safety parameters should be a priority in ventilation systems.
BS EN 17088 provides with you the safety requirements, mechanical requirements, mechanical durability, and mechanical maintenance guidelines. BS EN 17088 provides an evaluation to check safety compliance for the side curtain ventilation systems. BS EN 17088 also highlights all the possible hazard scenarios that might occur while installing or operating a side curtain ventilation system, and guides you to prevent these hazards.
