BS EN 818-6 provides you with the inspection for the maintenance of the chain slings in which the chain slings are subjected to conditions that affect their safety. Therefore, it ensures, as far as is reasonably practicable, that the chain sling is safe for continued use.
The chain sling goes through various tests during the inspection such as:
- The chain sling markings are illegible, i.e., information on the chain sling identification and/or the working load limit.
- Distortion of the upper or lower terminals
- Chain stretches
- Wear
- Cuts, nicks, gouges, cracks, excessive corrosion, heat discolouration, bent or distorted links or any other defects.
- Signs of "opening out" of hooks, i.e., any noticeable increase in the throat openings or any other form of distortion in the lower terminal.
