What is BS IEC 60747-6 - Discrete semiconductor devices about?
BS IEC 60747-6 is an international standard that discusses semiconductor devices.
BS IEC 60747-6 is the sixth part of the semiconductor series that provides standards for the following types of discrete semiconductor devices:
- Reverse-blocking triode thyristors
- Reverse-conducting (triode) thyristors
- Bidirectional triode thyristors (triacs)
- Turn-off thyristors
If no ambiguity is likely to occur, any of the above may be referred to as thyristors.
Who is BS IEC 60747-6 - Discrete semiconductor devices for?
BS IEC 60747-6 on semiconductor devices is useful for:
- Manufacturers of semiconductor devices
- Product designers
- Technical consultants
- Mechanical engineers
- Semiconductor industries
Why should you use BS IEC 60747-6 - Discrete semiconductor devices?
A thyristor's principal function is to control electric power and current by functioning as a switch. Single semiconductors such as diodes or transistors are examples of discrete devices. Power transistors are a type of discrete device that is used in a variety of applications to regulate voltages, assist in lowering power usage, and minimize heat generation.
BS IEC 60747-6 provides guidance on letter symbols, ratings, and characteristics for thyristors, measuring and test methods, measuring methods for electrical characteristics, measuring methods for thermal characteristics. As a result, to measure the thermal resistance of a thyristor between the virtual junction and a reference point.
Requirements for type tests and routine tests, marking of thyristors, and endurance tests in order to determine the electrical and thermal ratings (limiting values) and characteristics that are given in the datasheet and to establish the test limits for future routine tests and to confirm that the quality of the product continuously meets the BS IEC 60747-6 requirements.
Overall, BS IEC 60747-6 will assist you in controlling electric power and current through the use of a switch. For such a tiny and lightweight component, it provides appropriate protection to circuits with high voltages and currents, as well as the ability to adjust voltages, aid in decreasing power consumption, and reduce heat generation.
