What is ISO 29864Self-adhesive tapes about?

ISO 29864 specifies methods to measure the breaking strength and elongation at the break of a self-adhesive tape when it is subjected to a tensile force sufficient to cause it to break.

These test methods described in ISO 29864 provides procedures for testing 12 mm or 24 mm wide samples cut from supplied rolls of self-adhesive tapes. Alternatively, rolls of self-adhesive tape up to 50 mm wide can be directly tested in their original width. In these circumstances, the practical breaking strength and elongation will be typical of the manufacturer’s cut edges. When newly cut sample pieces are tested, because of the better cutting of the edges, the results can be higher than would be found on commercial tape.

The procedure described in ISO 29864 combines the determination of breaking strength and elongation at break.

Who is ISO 29864Self-adhesive tapes for?

ISO 29864 on adhesives is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of adhesives
  • Civil engineers and architects
  • Chemical engineers
  • Any entity responsible for testing and quality of adhesives
  • Flooring industry

Why should you use ISO 29864Self-adhesive tapes?

A self-adhesive label that has a side coated with an adhesive that sticks without soaking is a self-adhesive.

ISO 29864 provides that adhesive tape breaking strength is an indication of uniformity and quality, as well as its resistance to stresses experienced during application and use.

ISO 29864 specifies a procedure that incorporates both the measurement of breaking strength and elongation at break.

ISO 29864 covers all significant requirements, methods and measurements of breaking strength and elongation at break.

Overall, BS EN 17224 is a comprehensive guide to provide methods for determining the shear strength, so users will gain a comprehensive understanding of the quality of self-adhesives, durability and strength.
