What is BS EN 816 -Sanitary tapware about?  

BS EN 816 discusses sanitary tapware. BS EN 816 is applicable to single, and mixer taps with automatic shut-off for use with sanitary appliances installed in washrooms. 

The tests described in all BS EN 816 are type tests (laboratory tests) and not quality control tests carried out during manufacture.   

Note 1: BS EN 816 does not apply to the urinal or WC flushing valves or valves which open automatically.

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 816:2017 supersedes BS EN 816:1997, which is withdrawn. BS EN 816:2017 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 816:1997. These include: 

  • Water-saving criteria were introduced 
  • The entire structure of the standard was revised  
  • Normative references have been updated  
  • Editorial changes have been made throughout the entire document 
  • Figures were redrawn
