What is BS 6783-6 – Nickel, ferronickel and nickel alloys about?

BS 6783-6 is a British standard and the sixth part of the BS 6783 series that discusses the determination of sulphur in nickel by methylene blue molecular absorption spectrometry after the generation of hydrogen sulphide. Nickel alloys containing 72-83% nickel have the best soft magnetic properties and are used in transformers, inductors, magnetic amplifiers, magnetic shields and memory storage devices.

BS 6783-6 specifies a molecular absorption spectrometric method after the generation of hydrogen sulfide for the determination of the sulfur content of refined nickel in the range 0,000 1 to 0,002 % (m/m).

Who is BS 6783-6 – Nickel, ferronickel and nickel alloys for?

BS 6783-6 on the determination of nickel alloys applies to:

  • Manufacturer of nickel alloys
  • Quality testing personnel
  • Design engineers

Why should you use BS 6783-6 – Nickel, ferronickel and nickel alloys?

Nickel alloys containing 72-83% nickel have the best soft magnetic properties and are used in transformers, inductors, magnetic amplifiers, magnetic shields and memory storage devices.

BS 6783-6 provides you with guidance on the determination of sulphur in nickel in which the sulphur is determined by Iodate titration or IR detection. It also provides you with the procedure which includes hydrogen sulfide evolution, methylene blue development, spectrometric measurement, blank test and calibration which helps you in sampling and analysis of nickel, ferronickel and nickel alloys.

With BS 6783-6 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
