What is BS 6200-3.28.3 – Iron and steel about?

BS 6200-3.28.3 standard is a part of the BS 6200 series that discusses the spectrophotometric method of iron and steel for the sampling and analysis of iron, steel and other ferrous metals. Spectrophotometry is a standard and inexpensive technique to measure light absorption or the number of chemicals in a solution.

BS 6200-3.28.3 specifies a methylene blue spectrophotometric method for the determination of Sulphur in steel and iron. The method applies to Sulphur contents between 0,000 3 % (m/m) and 0,010 % (m/m). However, niobium, silicon, tantalum and titanium interfere in the determination of Sulphur.

Who is BS 6200-3.28.3 – Iron and steel for?

BS 6200-3.28.3 on spectrophotometric method for steel and iron applies to:

  • Manufacturer of spectrometric products
  • Quality testing personnel

Why should you use BS 6200-3.28.3 – Iron and steel?

Spectrophotometry is a standard and inexpensive technique to measure light absorption or the number of chemicals in a solution. It uses a light beam that passes through the sample, and each compound in the solution absorbs or transmits light over a certain wavelength.

BS 6200-3.28.3 provides you with the procedure for the spectrophotometric method which includes: a test portion, a blank test, determination of Sulphur and establishing the calibration graph. BS 6200-3.28.3 helps you in the spectrophotometric method which applies to Sulphur contents between 0,000 3 % (m/m) and 0,010 % (m/m).

As a user of BS 6200-3.28.3, you can be ensured of the spectrophotometric method for steel and iron for sampling and analysis of iron, steel and other ferrous metals.
